Catriona Gray Backs Ahtisa Manalo for Miss Universe 2025: “She Has the Experience, the Edge, and the Heart”
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Gray highlighted Ahtisa’s “international experience” as a major advantage over other candidates.
“She brings the experience to the table and not a lot of contestants can say that,” Gray said. “Having that kind of knowledge and stage presence gives her an edge. But of course, it also comes with a lot of pressure when you wear the Philippine sash.”
Gray described Ahtisa as “an incredible performer” whose stage presence has matured since her early pageant days.
“Even when she competed with me, she was only 21 or 22, but her energy was already there,” she added. “Now it’s been refined and amplified. We’re going to see a version of Ahtisa that we’ve never seen before.”
The former Miss Universe also emphasized the importance of mental and emotional endurance during the competition.
“My advice to Ahtisa is to really protect her peace. It’s such a marathon, but she’s built for this. I truly believe in her,” Gray shared.
Meanwhile, Gray confirmed that she will not be returning as a backstage host for this year’s Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, citing changes in production. Despite this, she expressed excitement to attend the event as a fan and supporter.
“I guess I’ll be a pageant fan this year,” she said with a smile. “It’s going to be a full-circle moment for me to just sit back and cheer for our queen.”
Ahtisa Manalo, representing the Philippines, recently released her Miss Universe tourism video, where she showcased the country’s culture, heritage, and scenic attractions — from the Mayon Volcano to festive Filipino celebrations.
The 74th Miss Universe competition will be held on November 21, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand, and will air live across ABS-CBN platforms including Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, Metro Channel, and iWant.
