Jose Mari Chan is back: His timeless Christmas songs mark the beginning of the Ber months
MANILA — It’s the first day of September, and for Filipinos, that only means one thing: the voice of Jose Mari Chan is officially back to welcome the holiday season.
Known as the King of Philippine Christmas Carols, Chan has become the country’s symbol of the Ber months. His timeless hits like Christmas in Our Hearts and A Perfect Christmas remain staples in malls, homes, and radios, reminding everyone that Christmas is just around the corner.
Now 80 years old, Chan remains humble about the enduring popularity of his music. “It just so happened that my Christmas song has been handed down to generations, so that even young people now know it. I am very blessed,” he said in a past interview.
Despite his age, Chan shows no signs of slowing down. Beyond music, he continues to serve as CEO of Binalbagan-Isabela Sugar Company Inc. (BISCOM), one of the country’s top sugar producers, while also spending time with his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann Ansaldo, their five children, and nine grandchildren.
This Christmas season, fans can also expect live performances from Chan, including concerts that will pair him with both veteran and younger OPM artists. His goal: to spread music, love, and the true spirit of Christmas to every generation.
In the Philippines, the holiday countdown doesn’t start with parols or lights—it starts when Jose Mari Chan’s music fills the air once again.
