Mystery Tarpaulin in Cebu Fuels Speculation of Robredo–Dizon Tandem for 2028 Elections
CEBU CITY — Political speculation about the 2028 national elections intensified after a mysterious tarpaulin featuring Leni Robredo and Vince Dizon was spotted early Sunday morning (March 15) at the fence of Fuente Osmeña Circle.
The tarpaulin, which appeared at dawn, showcased the two officials alongside phrases highlighting their public service records. Under Robredo’s name was the phrase “Integridad Aprubado,” while beneath Dizon’s was “Lideratong May Aksyon.”
It remains unclear who installed the tarpaulin or whether similar posters have appeared in other parts of the country. However, the display quickly fueled discussions about a possible Robredo–Dizon presidential and vice-presidential tandem in the 2028 national elections.
Supporters of Robredo have long urged the former vice president to run again for the presidency, potentially setting up a rematch against Sara Duterte. Robredo, however, has repeatedly said she prefers to focus on her work in Naga City and is considering seeking another term as mayor.
Meanwhile, Dizon has also been floated as a possible national candidate. His supporters cite his performance in government, including his previous role as Transportation Secretary and his current position as head of the Department of Public Works and Highways under the administration of Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
Observers also noted that the two officials have met several times this year in Robredo’s political bailiwick. On February 5, Dizon visited Naga City to discuss infrastructure priorities, including the retrofitting of major national roads and the construction of a 12-classroom building for the City College of Naga.
Later, on February 21, Dizon accompanied President Marcos in a meeting with Robredo focused on flood-control projects aimed at improving the city’s disaster resilience.
While neither Robredo nor Dizon has confirmed any political plans for 2028, the mysterious tarpaulin in Cebu has already sparked fresh conversations about possible alliances and emerging contenders in the next presidential race.
