MANILA, Philippines — Residents across the country are on high alert as Typhoon Uwan approaches, prompting the state weather bureau to issue storm surge warnings for multiple coastal provinces. The tropical cyclone, projected to intensify over the next 24 hours, poses a serious threat to communities along Luzon’s eastern and northern coastlines.
According to official forecasts, life-threatening storm surges may occur in low-lying areas, with water levels estimated to reach up to three meters in some coastal towns. Authorities are urging residents in high-risk zones to evacuate early and secure property to minimize damage.

Current Status of Typhoon Uwan
As of early Friday morning, Uwan was located 985 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, carrying maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h and gusts of up to 160 km/h. Forecasts indicate that the typhoon may reach super typhoon strength over the weekend.
Local disaster offices have begun preemptive evacuations, while schools and municipal offices in vulnerable areas are on standby for emergency response.
